Audio Description Project, 2018
I “borrowed” artwork from three different famous institutions (The MoMa, the Mia, and the Memorial Gallery at the University of Rochester). This borrowed art work took the form of the audio descriptions made by the institutions for accessibility programming for blind/low vision museum attendees. I displayed these eight audio descriptions along with the written transcript of each spoken audio description on an iPad installed on the wall with headphones. In addition to these “on loan” artworks, I asked four of my peers to listen to the audio descriptions without having looked at the works of art. I asked these peers to draw or diagram, in some way, what they thought the audio descriptions were describing. These 32 drawings were displayed with the 8 audio descriptions and the transcripts of the audio descriptions.
